Our leadership team recognizes the authority of God, and realizes that we are shepherds who serve under the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. We desire to devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word. Our passion and goal is to equip the believers for the work of the ministry until we all attain maturity in the fullness of Christ.

New Elim’s History

April 9, 1858 Josiah Ford gave one acre of land to build a private school called Hopewell School and it also served as a “Meeting Place” or church Daniel Skipper and William A Stokes received the deed for the land for a fee of $5.00.

A public school was started in this building in 1874 Hopewell School and Meeting House was constituted as a Baptist Church in 1876 and was admitted to the Rehoboth Association in 1876.

John Virden Gordon was the first preacher. The name was changed to Elim Baptist Church, but was continued to be called Hopewell Church for years longer by the older members.

1965 Elim Baptist Church was bricked and facelift the name of the church was changed to New Elim Baptist Church.

Rev. Gaultney, Rev. Franklin McWhirter, served 10 years as pastor of New Elim Baptist Church with Rev. Franklin McWhirter being the first full time pastor the church had.

New Elim pastorium was built in 1955 on Hartley Bridge Road on the site where the Shell Station stood. The church purchased 11 acres of land costing $1,200.00 from Mr. C. C. Puckett on October 31, 1954. The pastorium was moved to its present location in 1966. New Elim Baptist Church built the new sanctuary in 1973.
